History:
The history of Kanyakumari is replete with several fascinating events which are of great significance till date. All these interestings events and mythological stories are responsible for giving Kanyakumari a distinct identity. The architecture of the temples of this place gives a glimpse of the legacy of several rulers namely the Cholas, the Cheras, the Pandyas, the Nayaks and kings of Travancore.Known as Alexandria of the East in the ancient time, this beautiful place was considered as one of the important centers for learning art and culture . It gradually became the important center of trade and commerce.
This sacred place also witnessed the advent of other religion namely Christianity advocated by St. Thomas in 52 A.D,Jainism and Islam adding treasure of knowledge , architectural wealth and made Kanyakumari the epitome of unity. This beautiful place is considered sacred by the Hindus. It is believed that it was here that Goddess Parvati in one of her incarnations as Devi Kanya went through severe penance to obtain Lord Shiva as Her husband.Since then the famous Kanykumari temple or the Amman temple has been standing attracting millions of devotees from all over the world.The temple is a symbol of unity and sanctity and it is believed that the Goddess takes care of the land and protects its people. In short , it can be said that the history of Kanyakumari is a great learning experience for everyone as it shows the world since ages how different religions can co-exist peacefully.

Geography:
Kanniyakumari is located at 8°05′N 77°34′E / 8.08°N 77.57°E / 8.08; 77.57. It has an average elevation of 0 metres (0 feet). It lies at the meeting point of three bodies of water: the Arabian Sea, the Gulf of Mannar and the Indian Ocean. It is situated at 8° 4′ 41″ N, 77° 32′ 28″ E, and is the terminating point of the Western Ghats and Eastern Ghats. On the north and the east, it is bounded by Tirunelveli District, while on the west and northwest it is bounded by Kerala state.
It is suggested that there once existed a continent called Kumari Kandam to the south of Kanyakumari, often compared with Lemuria.

Weather:
Kanyakumari weather highlights the pleasant and delightful atmospheric conditions of the district. All round the year the climactic condition of the place remains comfortable and thus the residents of Kanyakumari get the opportunity to enjoy favorable weather.
Since throughout the year Kanyakumari remains pleasant, tourists can plan to visit the place at any time of the year. The climate in Kanyakumari undergoes very slight variations. However, it is highly recommended to visit this place between October and March.
From April to June, Kanyakumari faces a very hot temperature that can reach up to maximum 350C, whereas from November to February Kanyakumari remains coolest and the temperature hovers around 21°C. On the other hand, sometimes due to the Northeast Monsoon gentle rainfall takes place between the month of October and December.
