Sightseeing:
The Duke''s Nose is a cliff named after Duke Wellington - it is said that this cliff resembled his nose! One can visit the place by approaching from INS Shivaji and Kurwande Village. The spot is a vantage point for observing the scenic views around. This is also a great rock climbing area for the avid outdoor lover. Dotted along the hillside are the famous caves and forts of Shivaji''s Maratha kingdom. The imposing Rajmachi Fort can be approached only on foot as it sits surrounded by deep valleys on three sides and a thick forest on the fourth. Other equally impressive forts are the Manoranjan Fort, Shrivardhan fort, Visapur Fort, Lohagad Fort and the Tunga Fort with arsenals and guardhouses. The three ancient caves found in this region date back to the early years of the first millennium. The Karla Caves were made in or around 160 BC and are the biggest ‘Chaitya Caves’ (prayer halls) here. The caves with viharas (monasteries) were excavated for the Buddhist monks who came here during the monsoons. The interiors have lion pillars, huge elephant forms, carved representations.

Shopping:
Buy the famous ‘Chikki’, a sweet preparation made of jaggery, peanuts and sesame seeds, which is synonymous with this region. Also Khandala is well known for canned jams and snacks like ‘chivda’, wafers and ‘sev’. So make sure you don’t leave this beautiful place without buying several packets of the specialities.

Activities:
The hilly terrain of Khandala offer endless opportunities for hiking and trekking. Most of the treks are quite tough with the most popular ones being to Duke''s Nose and Kalri Hills. Make sure you start your trek early as it tends to get dark pretty early in these areas. Also visit the town of Kamshet which offers paragliding opportunities.

Nearby Places:
Lonavala , 5 km away, is another popular and beautiful hill-station that must be visited. Kamshet only 11 km from Lonavala is a must visit destinations for those with even the slightest inclination towards adventure. A picturesque hill station it is a popular destination for paragliding.

Nightlife:
There are plenty of places in Khandala that offer lip-smacking vegetarian and non- vegetarian delicacies. Gujarati cuisine is something that should not be missed out here. Mint vada paos and freshly roasted corn are a specialty and sold by hawkers all over the town.

How To Reach:
By Air:
The airport that lies nearest to Khandala is that of Pune, connected with all the major cities of India by direct flights. It is situated at a distance of around 65 km from the hill station. The next nearest airport from Khandala is Mumbai, which is about 101 km away.

By Rail:
Khandala hill station falls on the main railway line between Mumbai and Pune. Each and every express train that plies between the two cities makes a stoppage here. Lonavala railway station is also situated quite nearby.

By Road:
Regular buses ply between Lonavala and Khandala, at an interval of 15 minutes. Apart from that, one can easily get buses as well as taxis, from Khandala to Mumbai and Pune. By bus, it takes approximately 2 hrs from Pune and 4 hrs from Mumbai to reach here.
