Food:
Ludhianivis are healthy people with energetic food passion and their food is like the Punjabis themselves, simple, sizeable and hearty with no unnecessary frills or exotic accompaniments. Ludhiana’s tandoori cooking is renowned as one of the most popular cuisines throughout the world. Huge earthen ovens are half buried in the ground and heated with a coal fire lit below it. Marinated meat, chicken, fish, paneer, rotis and naans of many types are cooked in this novel oven and the results are absolutely scrumptious!
Ludhiana has absorbed some aspects of its cuisine from exterior influences. Experts of the cooking say that the gravy part of Punjabi cuisine came from the Mughals. The best popular example is the murg makhani. It served the state well to combine this influence in its cooking since it had a lot of pure ghee and butter. Murg makhani also provided a balance to tandoori chicken, which was dry because it was charcoal cooked. Nans and parathas, rotis made of maize flour are typical Punjabi breads. Of course, over the years the roti has been modified to add more variety, so there is the rumali roti, the naan and the laccha parathas, all cooked in the tandoor.

Culture:
The people of Ludhiana are very found of spending their lives by dining and wining. They tend to appreciate sumptuous eating and lavish life. By this the general people – especially the higher-class section of Ludhiana’s overall population gets exposed to the high risk of serious health hazards. The problems of over weight and obesity with high cholesterol level are commonly found among the citizens of Ludhiana.
Being mostly Hindus, the traditional mode of wedding in Ludhiana is an affair -- quite unique and grand by nature. The wedding usually tends to stretch over number of days with all the special relatives and friends staying and enjoying together. Until a very recent past it was a strictly maintained tradition for the brides and the grooms to meet for the first time at the wedding ceremonies, while the prevailing generation believe in personal penchant of the couples prior to marriage.
The people of Ludhiana have both money and taste and usually try to lead a stylized life. The general surveys have shown that these people never mind to spend money in order to get the best. They generally maintain the style and grandeur in all occasions and festivities. The people of Ludhiana are said to be fashion conscious – whether the fashion relates to the dressing style or the haircut. Although Ludhiana’s rich cultural heritage actually do not match the prevailing fashion and life style of the modern generation, yet traditional culture of the Ludhiana people has not lost fully. But the fact that the traditional exponent is threatened, cannot be denied.
